About

The Penicuik Library of Things (PLoTs) has been set up to support the community living in and around Penicuik.  It is run by the Penicuik Community Development Trust (PCDT) within the trust’s Pen-y-Coe Press building.

The project is a legacy of the Penicuik Carbon Challenge Project, which was run by the Storehouse for the first year and the PCDT for the second year.  The Carbon Challenge project funding came from Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) and left the PCDT with a wide range of tools and equipment. We wanted to ensure it was all made available for community use and we decided the best way to do that was to set up PLoTs.  You can read more about how the library started on our History page.

A Library of Things
helps individuals and communities to…

Share…

Sharing saves you money and the storage space for those household items you hardly ever use. The Library of Things helps to bring people together in the community. Sharing is good for the planet too.

Learn…

Most borrowers want to get better at up-cycling and repairing. They enjoy participating in sessions to share ideas, skills and knowledge with others. It is fun!

Save…

The environmental benefits from sharing, repairing and reusing are clear.  Sharing more and buying fewer saves on the materials, packaging, water, fuel and rare earth minerals that go into producing each tool.
